Souvlaki GR Midtown NYC

Exhaustion, rain, and a sleeping teenage daughter resulted in us taking advantage of a perk of staying/living in Manhattan, restaurant delivery.  We decided to order from a restaurant that we had heard positive things about just a couple of blocks from our hotel in Midtown, Souvlaki GR.

Not only was it affordable, but it was also a local, family-owned restaurant…my favorite type of place.

For someone who used to drive well over an hour to a small town along the Ohio River in West Virginia just to get good Greek food, it was a real bonus that it also happened to be a Greek restaurant.

We placed the order online through the restaurant’s website and the delivery service came with the warm food by the promised time.

I decided to get an Arni (Lamb) Pita.  I had never had a pita that included french fries before…I have to say I really liked it.  The lamb was really tasty.  It had the right amount of tzatziki sauce.  And the french fries were great!

My husband wanted meat and vegetable kalamakia (skewers).  As my daughter was sleeping at the time, we decided to get the skewers for her as well.   We ordered beef and vegetable skewers.  They both thought the skewers were very good.

They both also agreed that we had way too much pita bread to eat with dinner.  However, it was really good pita bread and we enjoyed for breakfast the next morning.

There were only two places that we ordered dessert from when we were in NYC: Junior’s because it was Junior’s Cheesecake and here because it sounded good and didn’t break the budget.

Turns out, it was extremely good.  Although I love baklava, the Loukoumades sounded delicious and different from what I normally see.  They were warm, fried pieces of dough drizzled with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon and walnut pieces.  Yum! They were also good for breakfast the next morning.
