Sunrise Grill in Boone, NC

When I was young, in the days before the Internet and online reviews, when we traveled my parents made their restaurant selection based on how busy the restaurant looked.  The more cars in a restaurant’s parking lot, the more likely we were to eat there. I still sometimes use this technique today.  Our dining at the Sunrise Grill in Boone, North Carolina was because I noticed it was very busy when we drove past the day before.  Of course, in this digital age, I did check out reviews on a few websites before we actually decided to go there.    It turns out selecting a restaurant because it is busy is still a really good idea…or at least it was in this case.  (Okay, I can think of several restaurants in my area that are exceptions to this idea, but they are popular chain restaurants …so…).

The Sunrise Grill is known for its breakfasts, which is really not much of a surprise considering its name.  My daughter ordered one of her favorite breakfasts, blueberry pancakes.   However, I did not even try to get a picture after the server dropped a full glass of ice water while trying to put it on the table before taking our order. It went all over…soaking my daughter.  The server was extremely apologetic, cleaned it up quickly with the help of other staff,  and did not charge us for my daughter’s meal. Although my daughter was really understanding, she was a little miserable and just wanted to eat when her food arrived.   My husband did not get as wet, so he was fine letting me snap a pic of his quiche and massive hashbrowns.   They both said their breakfast/lunches were delicious.

While they serve breakfast all day, they also offer additional dishes for lunch.   I ordered one of my favorites, a club sandwich.  It was very excellent! Unlike many club sandwiches, it had what appeared to be hand-cut, or at least thick-sliced, turkey breast and ham instead of a deli luncheon meat found on many club sandwiches.  Also, the tomatoes were really good instead of the gassed, commercial things that many most places serve.

Everyone really enjoyed our food and service at the Sunrise Grill.  Even my water-logged daughter asked if we could go back for breakfast the next morning as we walked to our car in their parking lot. (We did not because our hotel had breakfast included in our stay and we are cheap frugal). Frankly, I really wished we had gone there the next day instead of stopping on our way home at a restaurant my husband wanted to try a few hours from Boone.  You will not be reading a review on here about it; I only review places I can recommend going.

Sunrise Grill is definitely on our list of places to go to when we are in the area again.   We would also like to play around of miniature golf on the adjacent course next time.

If you plan to go, just remember they are not open for dinner, just breakfast and lunch.  Their closing hours seem to vary a little, so check their website or Facebook before going in the afternoon.
