The Orange Cow in D.C.

I must tell you that from my first stay in Washington D.C. in the mid-1980’s until the sometime in the 2000’s I cringed when I thought of eating in D.C. My first experiences were so bad that I completely lacked objectivity when it came to dining in the United States’ capital.

It was not until the 2000’s that I started to change my mind about all the food being way overpriced and horrible. Frankly, it was not until recent years that I experienced really good food everywhere we ate.

I can’t help but to have a gut (pun intended) feeling that this turn around is just not merely my perception. The fact that the city has apparently had a food scene transformation over the last decade or so has been noted by others who write about such things in publications like the Washington Post, Food and Wine Magazine, and even Vanity Fair.

I believe the change to my perception also might have something to do with eating at more authentically ethnic restaurants and the abundance of food trucks that are now found around the city.

One of my favorite food trucks sells wonderfully delicious homemade ice cream, The Orange Cow.

In addition to straight scoops of ice cream they offer floats, ice cream sandwiches, and chocolate dipped bananas. Their ice cream sandwiches are two fresh cookies with a large scoop of ice cream in the middle. However, I have to say I loved their strawberry ice cream in a bowl. I guess I like to keep it simple.
