Basic Buttercream Frosting


This frosting is a simple classic. it is easy to spread for a “crumb coating,” a filling between layers, and to frost an entire cake.

Recipe: Basic Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 c. soft (room temp) unsalted butter
  2. 3 1/2 c. sifted confectioners’ sugar
  3. 1/8 tsp. salt
  4. 3 – 4 Tbsp. milk, half and half or light cream
  5. 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract*

Instuctions

  1. Beat butter, salt, and sugar on medium with the beater attachment in a stand mixer or in an electric mixer.
  2. Add vanilla extract and 2 Tbsp. milk/cream.
  3. Continue to beat adding milk/cream a tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  4. Frosting should be smooth and fluffy.
