Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Ham Salad Sandwiches
After tiring of cucumber sandwiches from street vendors in London (I was 14 and on a trip with my Girl Scout Troop), I decided to risk it and try a ham salad sandwich. I braced myself for what might be a horrible sandwich. Afterall, I had been unpleasantly surprised in my own country with what […]

The Pancake Pantry in Nashville
It had been a long day for us. It had not started out as a fun mother-daughter day, but rather a follow-up trip to a pediatric dermatologist in Nashville that my eight-year-old did not want to make, especially since it meant an early morning start. However, it started to turn into a fun day when […]

Shrimp Stuffed Mushrooms, Version 2
The reason I have two shrimp stuffed mushroom recipes is simple: my husband. He really can’t eat the first version I made and loved. He has an allergy to a milk protein that causes him misery whenever he consumes milk, cream, soft cheeses, etc. However, if that milk protein is changed enough through heat or […]

Shrimp Stuffed Mushrooms, Version 1
Stuffed mushrooms are one of my favorite appetizers and finger foods. Moderately high in nutrients and relatively low in calories, mushrooms pair nicely with a variety of fillings. As cultivated mushrooms are in season year round, they are great for any occasion . . .or no occasion. My favorite type of mushroom filling contains seafood. […]

How to Store Fresh Herbs
It is time once again to get my herb garden in the ground. Unfortunately, it is the only thing I have had success growing in recent years since moving here. However, I am thankful that I have at least been able to grow a variety of herbs that I love. While I have the herb […]

Fried Corn
Fried corn is a dish that had to of originate in the southeastern United States. I do not remember having corn prepared this way until after moving to Georgia. It is fresh, sweet, simple, and delicious. It should not be confused with fried corn-on-the-cob, which is husked and cleaned corn cooked in a deep fryer […]

Bakersfield Mass Ave. in Indianapolis
Arriving just after they opened on a Sunday, we were the first patrons in Bakersfield on Massachusetts Avenue. Edison bulb pendant lights with industrial wire looking enclosures hanging throughout the restaurant were the first things that caught my eye…I love Edison bulb pendants. The next thing I noticed was the bar and the variety of […]

Viet Huong Vietnamese Restaurant in Huntsville
More than half of the tables at Viet Huong Vietnamese Restaurant were filled with customers despite it being between lunch and dinner. Plus, almost all of the customers were Asian. I took both of these facts as positive signs about the restaurant and I was not disappointed. I originally intended to order Pho, but the […]

Warm Crab Dip
A tasty, warm and gooey crab dip is a great addition to any celebratory or entertaining appetizer or finger food menu. This is a recipe is from my husband’s aunt, who spent many hours putting together a collection of recipes for the family after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Not only did she share […]

Subworks in Perryville, MD
Subworks in Perryville, Maryland have really good subs …or “typical” Maryland/Delaware are subs, according to my husband. What sets them apart from the other sub, cheese-steak, and pizza shops I have been to in the area is their crab pizza. Yes, crab pizza! Sure, it was the most expensive pizza I have even eaten, but […]
