Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Mom’s Warm Bacon Dressing
Whether it was on leaf lettuce straight from the garden, baby spinach from the grocery store, or straight from the cast iron skillet on the stove, I loved my my mom’s warm bacon dressing. The sweet and sour dressing becomes opaque and thick after cooling down…I can still eat it by the spoonful. Although a […]

Baked Pork Chops with Rice
My mom would often bake pork chops smothered in canned cream of mushroom soup to keep them moist. Sometimes she would serve them with rice. Although I had not even thought about mom’s mushroom soup pork chops in quite a while, I started craving them. If I made them for my family, my husband would […]

Ichiban Japanese Steak House in Hixson
Our family has a tradition of getting to pick where to go for dinner for your birthday. My daughter has picked the same place since her third birthday (she’s now eight), Ichiban Japanese Steak House on Highway 153 in Hixson, Tennessee. She really likes it. Why am I so specific with the address? Well, there […]

Blueberry Stuffed French Toast Casserole
This blueberry stuffed french toast casserole is really ideal for a larger family or when you have people visiting. The original recipe made a 9 X 13 pan, but as I modified it to fit a 9 or 10 inch square dish. The smaller version still made about 6 servings… I also only used cream […]

Grilled Portabella Mushroom Steak/Burger
My family loves Portabella mushroom steaks and burgers…just not the ones I used to make. Apparently, my general rule-of-thumb of simpler is better when it comes to veggies/fruit/fungi does NOT apply to grilled Portabella mushrooms. Olive oil and salt alone are not the taste sensation that my family wants. Thus, I did some research and […]

Grilled Meatloaf Burgers
Why a meatloaf burger instead of just a regular beef burger? Well, there are several reasons to partake of this delicious burger. They taste really good. It is meatloaf on a bun after all. You can make it using very lean meat. I usually buy most of our meat from a local farm, so I […]

Izzy’s in Cincinnati
A Ruben sandwich piled high with quality meat, melted cheese, and cabbage on tender rye bread…not what I expected to find in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, I found that great sandwich and more at the local chain Izzy’s. Started by Jewish immigrants in 1901, Izzy’s was “the kosher style delicatessen West of the Alleghenies,” according to […]

Alas, this is the final recipe I am sharing as a result of one weekend camping trip this summer. It is another dutch oven friendly dessert…peach cobbler. This super easy version of peach cobbler is can be made with just a few ingredients making it great for camping or a simple dessert at home.

Easy and Delicious Cornbread
Despite living close to South Pittsburg, TN where Lodge cookware is manufactured and the National Cornbread Festival occurs every year, I have had some very dry and fairly tasteless cornbread over the years…some from my own kitchen. While preparing to go camping this summer, I think I have finally found an easy recipe that delivers […]
