Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Umm…Please Use a Clean Spoon
Caution: Rant Ahead Although this blog is about positive food experiences for the most part, I find that I can no longer be silent about a . . .well, let’s call it a pet peeve of mine. I will confess that I like to watch cooking shows. It started as a child watching Julia Child […]

The French Market Creperie
If you are in the Knoxville, Tennessee area and in the mood for a crepe or just something different, I recommend checking out The French Market Creperie. This small, cute shop located in downtown Knoxville on South Gay Street has deliciously filled crepes served by a very friendly staff. We went for dinner. We were […]

Apricot Glazed Pork Chops
Moist and tender were hardly words you would have used to describe the pork chops I used to make. In fact, more accurate descriptors would have been dry, chewy, and flavorless. The only way I used to cook edible pork chops was to bake them on top of a dish of sauerkraut or smothered in […]

Crumble Burger: The Key is Steam
What I remember about crumble burgers from my childhood is peeking at the buns in the steamer. I do not recall my mother or paternal grandmother fixing the meat, just the buns. I loved the warm, soft buns. Although I never had crumble burgers anywhere else other than our home or my grandmother’s, I never […]

Corn Chowder
The sweet taste and yellow color of corn can add some sunshine to a soup on a dreary day. While I love it in Vegetable Beef Soup, corn chowder can really lighten my spirits on a rainy, overcast day. This particular recipe is a very creamy chowder uses the traditional bacon and potato base. I […]

Delicious Swedish Meatballs
I can not seem to replicate my favorite dishes that family members make even when I have their recipe. Although I always wonder why when it happens, I believe it is because they rarely use/used recipes. They cook/cooked by feel. Thus, when they write/wrote it down it does not/did not always translate. This was the […]

How Spaghetti Carbonara Came to the Rescue
It was late. I had no idea of what to make for dinner. My husband’s milk protein allergy and my sensitivity to citric acid made me want to avoid a quick pasta dish, but it seemed the best alternative. Just as I was about to toss a coin to determine who to make miserable, I […]

Caramelized Bananas
I made two versions of caramelized bananas after being inspired by a show on TLC where the “Cake Boss” made a similar dish as a version of bananas foster. I made an alcohol free version and one with leftover amaretto from making Amaretto Cherry Bread. I must say the amaretto version tasted better and did […]

Amaretto Cherry Bread
In honor of National Cherry Month, I wanted to make the amaretto cherry bread from my Lehman’s Anniversary Cookbook. I knew I wanted to make it as soon as I read the recipe, but it took me a while because I did not have any amaretto. It was worth the wait. This is a very […]

Quick, Easy Butternut Squash Soup
There are many butternut squash recipes on the Internet. I have a couple in my cookbooks. All of the ones I read require you to cook the squash (usually by roasting it) before constructing the soup. While this is not difficult and does guarantee a fresh flavor, it does make the soup more time consuming. […]
