Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Crumble Burger: The Key is Steam
What I remember about crumble burgers from my childhood is peeking at the buns in the steamer. I do not recall my mother or paternal grandmother fixing the meat, just the buns. I loved the warm, soft buns. Although I never had crumble burgers anywhere else other than our home or my grandmother’s, I never […]

Delicious Swedish Meatballs
I can not seem to replicate my favorite dishes that family members make even when I have their recipe. Although I always wonder why when it happens, I believe it is because they rarely use/used recipes. They cook/cooked by feel. Thus, when they write/wrote it down it does not/did not always translate. This was the […]

Tortillas Plus Cheese Equals Two Yummy Dishes
It is truly fantastic what wonderful things can be made from cheese and tortillas. My favorites to make at home are breakfast burritos and quesadillas. Yes, they are extremely simple, but they are also extremely versatile and delicious. We often have them in the same week because I like to use leftovers. First, I make […]

Sensational Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Hearty Soup Beans and Dumplings
Tonight, I made soup beans for dinner. No, I have not made a mistake when I say soup beans. I do not mean bean soup; I mean soup beans. I am from Appalachia where soup beans are not the same thing as bean soup. Bean soup usually contains things like celery and has a more […]

Rosemary Pork Loin Roast
Today I have a guest chef, my husband. It is New Year’s Day and I am sick, thus he volunteered to cook. 🙂 I am very grateful. He did ask me how to fix everything, but he did a great job. I once made this roast recipe for some friends and now it is what […]

Yummy Honey Brown Sugar Ham
I love this honey, brown sugar coated ham. In fact, I think my daughter and I love it almost as much as Winnie the Pooh loves honey. Even my husband eats this ham,and he does not like ham! This ham is not only very yummy, it is also much cheaper to make than the spiral […]

Rye Cocktail Bread: Entertaining Recipes
Today, you get two recipe ideas for the price of one. Of course, one is free anyway…but I digress. I purchased a loaf of rye cocktail bread to make Sausage and Cheese on Rye one morning when we had company. It is an easy, yummy recipe that works great for breakfast, brunch, or as an […]

Three Bean Casserole: A Great Busy Day Dish
Three Bean Casserole is a great dish to make in the crock-pot when you have a lot of things to do. Not only is this old recipe easy, it is very tasty also.

Seven 1970’s Recipes, Recipe 6: Beef Liver and Onions
My mom made this dish often during the sixties and seventies, but not much later because of concerns about problems with locally raised beef livers (a long story that I think was finally answered by questions about local manufacturing involving C8) and cholesterol. She would make it every time my older sister came home because […]
