Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Roasted Summer Squash Halves
I purchased a bunch of very small yellow summer squash at a local farm. I wanted to make them for dinner, but I did not have much time to cook. Normally, I would have made them into cooked squash, but my husband needed to be able to eat them and I don’t like cooked squash […]

Amish Sweet and Sour Dressing
When I think of an Amish salad dressing, I think of Amish Sweet and Sour Dressing. The celery seed-laden dressing with vinegar and oil has long been one of my favorites. The first time I ever remember eating this style of sweet and sour dressing was at a Dutch Pantry restaurant on a garden salad […]

Amish Macaroni Salad
According a teenager eating this Amish Macaroni Salad for the first time, it is “the best thing I have ever eaten.” I am not sure everyone would agree as I know some people do not appreciate the sweetness of the dressing. However, I think many people would at least agree that they love Amish Macaroni […]

Pulled Pork Egg Rolls
Do you have leftover pork from the backyard smoker, a crockpot pork roast, or maybe a local barbecue joint? Making pulled pork egg rolls is a great way to use previously cooked pork for a delicious casual appetizer or snack. A simple filling of pork, corn, black beans, and bell peppers lends itself to a […]

Liege Belgian Waffles
While light, airy Belgian waffles that fill breakfast plates across the United States are very tasty, they are not my favorite of the Belgian waffles. Yes, there are actually two different types of Belgium waffles in the world. The light, airy one is often referred to as a Brussels waffle. The other smaller, sugar-laden type […]

Hot Dog Chili Sauce with Black Beans
In West Virginia, we take hot dog toppings very seriously. There are many great places in the state to buy deliciously topped hot dogs. What you say when ordering one of those toppings is dependent on where you are in the state. There is a demarcation line that lies somewhere between the cities Parkersburg and […]

Lemony White Bean Dip
A delicious, healthy, and versatile dip that does not depend on being kept cold or hot is a summer party or picnic dream. Lemony White Bean Dip fits right into that dream. While it would be good any time of the year, the brightness of lemon combined with the light freshness of parsley is great […]

Fresh Vegetable Pizza
I can’t remember many gatherings in the early 1990’s where someone didn’t bring or make a fresh vegetable pizza as an appetizer or finger food. They were even available to purchase already made in my local grocery store. I also can’t believe that my husband claims to never have heard of it. Thus, I had […]

Vegetable Egg Rolls
The first time I ever had homemade egg or spring rolls was as a teen when my older sister was home for a visit and made them…despite my father’s aversion to trying new food. At that time I was a picky eater, literally. Although I would try almost any food, I would pick through everything […]

Oxtail Soup or Stew
My paternal grandmother used to make oxtail soup. When I was 6 or 7 years old I remember thinking that her “oxtail soup” must be just another name for beef vegetable soup because no one had oxen anymore. Afterall, I had seen old pictures of my maternal grandfather with his oxen pulling trees that had been […]
