Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. Grandma’s Peach Cobbler
Finding my paternal grandmother’s handwriting in faded pencil on a fragile piece of paper at the bottom of a recipe folder prompted me to make her peach cobbler for the first time in my life. I must admit that I can not remember my grandmother making peach cobbler…I remember her fresh peach pies and peach custard pies very vividly though.
To my delight, Grandma’s peach cobbler is a simple, basic batter cobbler that is easy to make and tastes great. It can be served warm or cold. I love it warm with ice cream or milk.

Grandma's Peach Cobbler
Ingredients
- 8 peaches
- 1 lemon (optional)
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. butter, cold
Batter
- 1 egg
- 1/3 c. milk
- 3 Tbsp butter or shortening, melted
- 1/4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Instructions
- Peel and slice peaches.
- Lightly toss peaches with the lemon juice to prevent discoloration. (optional)
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Gently mix peaches with the sugar and pour into a buttered 9X9 baking dish or pan.
- Dot the top of the peaches with small pieces of cold butter.
- Mix egg, milk, and melted butter in a larger bowl.
- Stir in combined flour, baking powder, and salt into the liquid mixture until a batter is formed.
- Pour batter over the peaches and bake for thirty minutes until golden.
If you are wanting a double-crust cobbler instead of a batter cobbler, my maternal grandmother’s blackberry cobbler recipe can be used by substituting peaches for the berries and omitting the flour from the filling.
