Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Chicken with Blueberry Sauce, Version 1
One of my daughter’s favorite foods is al fresco’s Wild Blueberry Chicken Sausage. We first discovered it in a local grocery store and purchased it regularly until they stopped carrying that flavor. The company’s website indicated that they no longer sell the wild blueberry flavor in our area or even our region of the United […]

Sweet Hut Bakery and Cafe
Have you ever been so far behind you thought you were ahead? Well, that is the best description of me right now. I am so far behind on blog posts that I am embarrassed. However, I am going to do my best to get caught up..starting in the Atlanta area (a few months ago). One […]

Steamed Baby Bok Choy with Oyster Sauce
My husband picked up a bag of baby bok choy when we were at an international “farmer’s” market the other day. He told me he would really like some steamed bok choy with “some kind of sauce” like he ate for breakfast when he was in Wuhan, China several years ago. While I am happy […]

North East Maryland-Style Crab Cakes
I am the first to admit that I am spoiled. After eating Woody’s Crab House crab cakes over the years, I find that I am intolerant of the crab cakes that most places serve. I understand that there are other places in the Baltimore region that make their crab cakes in a similar manner to Woody’s […]

Slow Cooker French Onion Soup
Today’s post is brought to you by my husband. He loves French onion soup and has had time recently to play around with making it in a slow cooker. His biggest lesson learned about making any kind of French onion soup is to TASTE EACH OF THE ONIONS YOU USE IN THE SOUP TO MAKE […]

Black Eyed Peas
Every year close to Christmas many grocery stores in the American South start selling “fresh” black eyed peas and increase their stock of collard greens in preparation for New Year’s Day. Black eyed peas and collard greens are said to represent coins and dollars, which when consumed on New Year’s Day will bring you fortune […]

Creamy French Dressing
I am just going to say it: Homemade salad dressing is so much better than the bottled stuff that I would make it even if it did cost more…and sometimes it does when there is a sale and coupons that make the bottled stuff almost free. When you make it yourself, you have more control […]

Easy Dipped Pretzel Rods
When I was in college, my service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, chapter decided to raise money for a project…or maybe it was an event, but I digress… by selling chocolate covered pretzels. We purchased large, sourdough hard pretzels, chocolate chips, shortening, and paraffin wax. We met at one of the members apartments to make them. […]

Black Bean Patties
Thankfully, my family really like beans. They are a great source of soluble fiber, protein, folate, magnesium, and other minerals. They also have no cholesterol and are low in fat. While I really like and appreciate all of the great nutritional facts about beans, I really love that they are very inexpensive and can […]

Pineapple Fruit and Nut Cookies
My great-aunt Libby had a few foods that she was known for and did exceptionally well. This is one of those foods…Pineapple Fruit and Nut cookies. My mom made them every year after she was given the recipe by Aunt Libby. They were some of the many cookies and other sweet treats that my mom […]
