Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Orange Slice Cake
When I found the hand-written recipe for Orange Slice Cake in my mom’s recipe box, I briefly thought it was for the orange cake that our neighbor, Gussie, frequently made and shared with us. It was her favorite. The thing is…no one in my family really liked orange cake. However, I knew not really enjoying it would never […]

Amish Peanut Butter Spread
On the tables of a couple of my favorite Amish Country Ohio restaurants you will find a squeeze bottle labelled “peanut butter spread.” You will also find this spread in bulk food stores , bakeries, and other shops. Often referred to as Amish Peanut Butter Spread, this tasty, sweet spread seems to vary a lot depending […]

Creamy Coconut Shrimp
My daughter kept asking me for coconut shrimp like she had eaten somewhere with her dad. She had raved about the coconut shrimp following a father/daughter dance, so I assumed that was what she was referring to and that it was fried coconut shrimp. Well, I found out that I was wrong after she ordered […]

Thai Island in Orlando
Whenever we travel to tourist hot spots, we try and go to as many off-the-beaten path, local restaurants as we can when we eat out. The Disney area of Orlando, Florida is definitely one of those tourist destinations that had us going off the tourist beaten path looking for a Mom and Pop type spot. Thai […]

Easy Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli Rice Skillet
The classic combination of chicken, broccoli, and a starch in a single dish has become something of a comfort food to me…it reminds me of my early adult years more than my childhood though. I think the broccoli, chicken, and rice or noodles combination must have peaked in popularity in the early 1990’s, but I […]

Slow Cooker Swiss Steak
It is a little ironic that I really dislike “baked” steak, but I love a tomato based Swiss steak. They both are long cooking steaks, but usually differ in texture and definitely differ in flavor. Baked steak to me was either a “cube steak” or its thicker and differently tattooed cousin, the “bake steak.” Both of […]

And Pizza
&Pizza was on my list of places I wanted to try when we visited Washington, D.C. I did not really make an actual plan to go there though. Although I always have used a combination of the Metro and walking to get around D.C., this trip I actually paid (if you know me you know that […]

Kool-Aid Pickles
My husband came home from work one day going on about a pickle that he had from a mobile food vendor. It was a dill pickle that had been soaked in Kool-aid…a Kool-aid pickle. When I coordinated a fall fair at my church earlier this month, he was adamant that we make Kool-aid pickles to sell […]

Stuffed Italian Meatloaf
When you think about Italian cuisine meatloaf probably does not come to your mind at all. However, the Romans are credited with being the first to mix chopped meat with filler (and wine) back in the 5th century. Thus, the argument could be made that they are responsible for the later development of meatloaf. The […]

Magee’s Bakery in Maysville, KY
Maysville is a picturesque town located along the Ohio River in Kentucky. It is probably best known as the hometown of the Clooneys due to the international celebrity of Rosemary and George. It is also known for its transparent pies and tarts. In fact, it appears that Maysville is the epicenter of transparent pies and […]
