Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Cranberry and Mushroom Stuffed Pork Loin
I must say I am very happy with my first spiral stuffed pork loin roast. I usually don’t take as much pride in my work, but I can’t help but be a little elated at the results. Sure, I could use a little more practice in cutting the roast so that it is a more […]

Homemade Rice-a-Roni
As I stared at a huge stockpile of rice and pasta in my pantry, I wondered two things. First, I wondered how I let myself amass such a large amount even if they were on sale and I did have coupons. Second, what should I do with all of it? It had been a rather […]

Simple Poached Pears
Until recently, the only poached pears I was familiar with were poached in wine. The one time I had them did not turn me into a fan. I guess I do not like wine enough to enjoy my dessert fruit poached in it. However, I recently read about pears poached in just a simple syrup […]

Hot Fudge Sauce
I must be insane. It is mid-January and I am making hot fudge sauce. I should be concentrating on healthy foods, budget-friendly meals and warm soups, but I want peppermint hot fudge sauce. What makes me question my sanity most is that I am not the biggest chocolate fan. I like it every once and […]

Cabbage Salad and Freezer Slaw
In my continuing effort to save money and still feed my family well, I bought a lot of cabbage while it was on sale. I started by making my standard dishes of cooked cabbage with bacon and coleslaw. I decided to make another favorite, cabbage salad. It is almost a cross between the cooked cabbage […]

Bacon-Wrapped Scallops
Bacon-wrapped scallops are among those snacks/appetizers that are always popular, never left over and easy to make. Despite this, the only time I used to ever have them was at large, semi-formal to formal occasions (anniversary parties, cocktail receptions, holiday events). In fact, I found that I had never had any that were homemade. They had […]

Yummy Ham Loaf
Although it is a great way to use leftover ham, I always made ham loaf from a “ham loaf mix” that I purchased at the meat counter at the grocery or meat store before we moved to our current home. The mix was simply ground ham and ground pork in the correct proportions to make […]

Simply Broiled Snapper
I have a confession…I really do not like many types of fish. Sure, I like lobster, crab, shrimp, and salmon, but beyond those…I am less than enthusiastic. Oh, I know fish is full of Omega-3’s and good for you, but I would much rather stick to eating flax and taking supplements. So, it is with […]

The Purple Daisy Picnic Cafe
Okay, after all the cooking I have done in the last few weeks, I need a break. Luckily, I know of some really good places to go when I close my kitchen. One of my favorite places is The Purple Daisy Picnic Cafe in the St. Elmo neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is at the […]

As an adult, I have discovered you do not need to spend endless hours in the kitchen just to have good food for a party or other gathering of family and/or friends. You just need a few key ingredients to make yummy appetizers and snacks. One of the must have key ingredients is cream cheese. […]
