Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Rockin’ Robin’s Soda Shoppe & Catering
I am lucky enough (or maybe just old) to remember eating at soda fountains when I was younger. Between the soda fountain in a local drug store and the lunch counter/fountain in a discount store where my grandmother had worked, I have wonderful memories of sitting on a stool eating ice cream or drinking a […]

Enjoying Athens While In Nashville
A wrong turn on a weekend trip that had us driving through Nashville, TN lead us to some great Greek food. It turns out Guy Fieri and the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives crew had already found the place, but I had missed that episode. The Athens Family Restaurant is a very authentic, locally-owned establishment that […]

Simply Frozen Peaches
There is little better on a hot day than frozen fruit that you (or someone you know) froze. My mom used to can and freeze peaches by the bushels every year. She and my little sister especially liked frozen peaches. I must say I always liked cold canned peaches better…okay it was only because I […]

Best Banana Split in Chattanooga
It is the first day of July…the first day of National Ice Cream month. I can’t think of a better way to start off one of the hottest months of the year here and a celebration of the frozen delight than with a yummy banana split. Although I don’t get them often, one of my […]

Delicious Barbecue From A Feed Store
It is hard to believe that you can find good barbecue in a feed store, but that is the case in Louisville, Kentucky. Okay, the name of the restaurant is Mark’s Feed Store…they sell feed for people, not livestock. The name really fits the restaurant. Although I only went to the Barstown Road location (there […]

Cooked Yellow Summer Squash
My paternal grandmother and one of her sisters both laid claim to the ownership of the family’s cooked summer squash recipe. In fact, I know that her children still believe that it was my great aunt’s recipe. My grandmother used to contend that her sister first got the recipe from her … My best guess […]

Pan Seared Sea Scallops with Pasta Alfredo
When I found a fantastic deal on sea scallops, I used what I had in the pantry to make this very simply prepared dish. My original intention was to combine the scallops and the pasta, but I didn’t because of my husband’s milk allergy. He ended up eating the pasta anyway though 🙂 Next time, […]

An Old Family Doughnut Recipe
My dad talked about his grandmother’s homemade doughnut’s with great affection. Therefore, I was really happy when I found the recipe in my grandmother’s handwriting while going through some old recipes. As with the rest of my paternal grandmother’s written recipes, the recipe was had incomplete directions. It did tell ingredients and mixing instructions, yet […]

Small Town Ohio Donut Shop
Most any morning in the small town of Williamsburg, Ohio, just outside of Cincinnati, you will probably find a line at the local donut shop. Holtman’s Donut Shop has a wonderful selection of delicious donuts that are made fresh daily. Well, the selection is wonderful if you get there early. The donuts are very popular […]

My Hometown Favorite Doughnut (or Donut) Shop
I read that the first Friday in June is National Doughnut Day. In honor of that, I thought I would share some of my favorite doughnut shops and a couple of doughnut recipes over the next few posts. Thus, it seems appropriate to start at the beginning…my hometown. When I was very young, there was […]
