Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Yummy Potato Salad
I blame my mom. Yes, you read it correctly…I blame my mom. What for you ask? My dislike of almost every potato salad made, except those using her recipe. I am just thankful that she taught us how to make it and actually shared the recipe for her potato salad dressing with several family and […]

Peas and Pasta
Desperate to make a super fast dinner that would be filling after a long day, I turned to my stand-by, quick cooking pasta. I happened to also have some Philadelphia® cooking creme that I had bought on sale with a coupon…okay, it was a quarter in the end…and decided to try it out. This […]

Grandma’s Smoked Pork Chops
My maternal grandmother died when I was 9 years old…she was 84. Despite the fact that she was known by family and friends as one of the best cooks and she lived down the street from us at the time, I can’t say I remember her cooking that much. One thing I do remember is […]

Creamed Tomatoes: Version 3, With Dumplings
Okay, this is the last post on creamed tomatoes…I promise. This one is different because I have broken the food blogging rules and not included a picture. The inclusion of dumplings basically means making creamed tomatoes without cream and adding dumplings instead of most of the slurry mixture. This is how my mom usually made […]

Creamed Tomatoes: Version 2, With Cream
As promised, this is the follow-up post to Creamed Tomatoes, Version 1. The main difference is this version contains cream, milk or half-and-half. I have come to the conclusion that my mom made creamed tomatoes both with and without the milk/cream. Here is as close as I can get to her recipe: I do not […]

Creamed Tomatoes: Version 1, No Cream
My mother and grandmothers would frequently make creamed tomatoes when I was a child. As a child, I don’t think I appreciated the dish as much as I do as an adult. It has turned out to be one of my comfort foods (or at least they are until my allergy to citric acid really […]

Simply Amazing Dining at Pappadeaux
One of the most amazing dining experiences I have had recently was in Marietta, Georgia at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. Although it is a part of a larger restaurant group with fairly limited in number of locations, we had beyond great service and food. I had read some very good reviews online and thought my husband […]

Grilled “Baked” Sweet Potatoes: A Quick Method
Baked sweet potatoes are a wonderful accompaniment to grilled steaks or pork. However, I don’t like heating up my oven to bake them when grilling out, nor am I patient enough to “bake” them on the grill long enough for them to be done. Thus, I decided to combine my little sister’s method of microwaving […]

Sweet and Savory Grilled Pork Tenderloin
Don’t you just love the versatility of pork tenderloin? It can be cooked so many ways with so many flavors and so quickly that I often wonder why I don’t fix it more often. Although it is not the cheapest cut of meat, it can often be found on sale. It freezes well and usually […]

Best Ribs in ‘Nooga
Since my first trip to Mississippi when I was eight to visit my older sister and her family, I have thought of barbecue when I thought of Southern food. As an adult, it is want I always wanted to eat every time I traveled to any state that I thought should have good barbecue. Now […]
