Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

An Easy, Yummy Cookie: Lemon Whippensnappers
The Christmas baking season has officially started at my house. Every year at this time, I am reminded of the MASSIVE amounts of cookies, candy, and bread my mother would make. She gave it to anyone and everyone. We decided to start with one of her easiest and favorite cookies, Lemon Whippensnappers. They not only […]

Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake is a Chocoholic’s Delight
This is my first guest post, sort of, I am actually writing it, but my brother-in-law did all the work. He made this cake for my sister’s birthday. He spent the entire morning in the kitchen, but I am told it was worth it. Apparently, this cake is beyond delicious. Both he and my sister […]

Seven 1970’s Recipes, Recipe 7: Nora’s Cherry Cheesecake
This was a no-bake cheesecake my aunt made in the 1970’s and gave me the recipe. It was one of my favorites. It is the first “cheese cake” I had ever had. My daughter LOVES cheesecake and was super excited I would make her one – even though it does not look or taste like […]

Seven 1970’s Recipes, Recipe 4: Mississippi Mud Cake
Today, I wanted to share one of my sister’s favorite cakes. It was first popular in the late 1970’s at our house. This recipe was one my aunt made. My mom’s did not have any nuts or coconut in it. Normally, I provide you with a picture of the finished product at the least. However, […]

Seven 1970′s Recipes, Recipe 2: 7-Up Cake
Mom made this cake one year for my elementary school’s “Lawn Fete” and I really wanted it. I remember participating in the cake walk multiple times hoping to win it back. In the end, I went home with two cakes. One of them was indeed the cake my mom had taken to the school. She […]

In honor of the birth of my little sister, I decided to do seven recipes that were popular in our house during the decade in which she was born. Not all the recipes originated in the 1970’s. They were introduced and popular in our house in the 1970’s…. The first one is super simple, Watergate […]

Mom’s Jelly Roll
My mom used to make jelly rolls for her parents at their request. My grandmother was a fantastic cook, so I think it says a lot about my mom’s ability to make jelly rolls. It is always a yummy treat.

Cinnamon Candy Apples: A Yummy Treat
Cinnamon candy apples are nice to serve at Christmas because of their bright red appearance. I also love making them with really fresh apples in the fall. They are nice for gatherings because they can be eaten hot or cold.

Aunt Mary’s Apple Cake
First, I never had an Aunt Mary. Second, this recipe was from my aunt by marriage. Mary was her aunt. We always called it Aunt Mary’s Apple Cake anyway. This cake is delicious and simple to make, but does require some upper body work. It is a VERY thick batter ( more like a dough). […]
