Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

My Hometown Favorite Doughnut (or Donut) Shop
I read that the first Friday in June is National Doughnut Day. In honor of that, I thought I would share some of my favorite doughnut shops and a couple of doughnut recipes over the next few posts. Thus, it seems appropriate to start at the beginning…my hometown. When I was very young, there was […]

Simply Amazing Dining at Pappadeaux
One of the most amazing dining experiences I have had recently was in Marietta, Georgia at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. Although it is a part of a larger restaurant group with fairly limited in number of locations, we had beyond great service and food. I had read some very good reviews online and thought my husband […]

The other locations are in Hixson and the East Brainerd area. On our last visit, I noticed a sign saying they were now serving whole wheat dough grown and […]

It is said to be an acquired taste. Well, I have acquired it. My favorite is the chain, Skyline Chili. I love their 4-way chili, their Coney […]

Servatii’s Christmas Yule Log
One great Christmas tradition is to have a Yule Log as a Christmas treat. I have made them in the past, but mine were just average in taste and never looked nearly as good as the ones from Servatii’s Pastry Shop and Deli in Cincinnati, Ohio. I imagine they never tasted as good either. Servatii’s […]

Fantastic Franco’s Pizza
It is Friday. Friday is often pizza day at our house. However, I must admit I am not really looking forward to the frozen pizza that is on the menu for tonight. I would much rather be at Franco’s Pizza, Pasta and Subs in Harrisonburg, Virginia eating this: Their pizza is fantastic. There have just […]

Good Dog: A Very Appropriate Name
The third installment of Hot Dog Stand Week at A Simple Home Cook moves from West Virginia to Tennessee. A Good Dog is located in the North Shore of Chattanooga, Tennessee near Coolidge Park. Unlike the other hot dog stands I featured, this is more of a restaurant than a hot dog stand. It is […]
