Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

The Pizza Place
When you think of great pizza, West Virginia may not be the first (or second, or tenth) place that comes to your mind. However, perhaps it should. Although I have had some very good pizza across America, my favorite is still pizza from The Pizza Place in my hometown, Parkersburg. You would think that after […]

Eating at Arthur Bryant’s
When I hear Kansas City, I think barbecue. So while traveling across the country and passing through Kansas City, Missouri around lunch time, I decided we should eat at a barbecue joint. When we looked to the gps for close restaurants, it showed that Arthur Bryant’s was not far from where we were on the […]

Nikki’s Drive In
UPDATE: Nikki’s announced that they have accepted an offer from a real estate developer and will be closing. There will be condos/apartments built where the restaurant stands. On a ridge overlooking downtown Chattanooga and the trendy area of North Shore sits Nikki’s Drive In. Although it is geographically close to the North Shore, it is […]

The Purple Daisy Picnic Cafe
Okay, after all the cooking I have done in the last few weeks, I need a break. Luckily, I know of some really good places to go when I close my kitchen. One of my favorite places is The Purple Daisy Picnic Cafe in the St. Elmo neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is at the […]

Indian Fry Bread and Taco
When crossing South Dakota this summer, we had the good fortune to be able to stop and drive through part of the Badlands National Park. Although the park had amazing vistas, I never thought I would be writing about the food I ate there. We were hungry by the time we made our way to […]

Church Brew Works: Divine Pittsburgh Steak Salad
Rather than have a beautiful, early 20th century church sit empty in Pittsburgh (PA), someone had the idea of turning it into a wonderful microbrewery and restaurant. They did so in a way that left much of the great architect and details in tact instead of making the inside like any other restaurant. They need […]

Rockin’ Robin’s Soda Shoppe & Catering
I am lucky enough (or maybe just old) to remember eating at soda fountains when I was younger. Between the soda fountain in a local drug store and the lunch counter/fountain in a discount store where my grandmother had worked, I have wonderful memories of sitting on a stool eating ice cream or drinking a […]

Enjoying Athens While In Nashville
A wrong turn on a weekend trip that had us driving through Nashville, TN lead us to some great Greek food. It turns out Guy Fieri and the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives crew had already found the place, but I had missed that episode. The Athens Family Restaurant is a very authentic, locally-owned establishment that […]

Best Banana Split in Chattanooga
It is the first day of July…the first day of National Ice Cream month. I can’t think of a better way to start off one of the hottest months of the year here and a celebration of the frozen delight than with a yummy banana split. Although I don’t get them often, one of my […]

Delicious Barbecue From A Feed Store
It is hard to believe that you can find good barbecue in a feed store, but that is the case in Louisville, Kentucky. Okay, the name of the restaurant is Mark’s Feed Store…they sell feed for people, not livestock. The name really fits the restaurant. Although I only went to the Barstown Road location (there […]
