Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Viet Huong Vietnamese Restaurant in Huntsville
More than half of the tables at Viet Huong Vietnamese Restaurant were filled with customers despite it being between lunch and dinner. Plus, almost all of the customers were Asian. I took both of these facts as positive signs about the restaurant and I was not disappointed. I originally intended to order Pho, but the […]

Subworks in Perryville, MD
Subworks in Perryville, Maryland have really good subs …or “typical” Maryland/Delaware are subs, according to my husband. What sets them apart from the other sub, cheese-steak, and pizza shops I have been to in the area is their crab pizza. Yes, crab pizza! Sure, it was the most expensive pizza I have even eaten, but […]

John’s Family Restaurant
The panhandles of the state of West Virginia are the most obvious geographically and socioeconomically different areas of the state. To me, the Eastern panhandle seems to reflect the outer Washington D.C. area of Maryland and Virginia rather than the still rather diverse rest of the state. That reflection is also in the areas cuisine. […]

Thai Phooket in Nashville
As I pulled into a parking space in front of Thai Phooket I had serious doubts that I should be taking my 8-year-old to eat at this establishment. A quick double check on Urbanspoon somewhat reassured me that it was indeed “kid friendly” and had decent food. If it had not been a Sunday afternoon […]

Mean Mug Coffeehouse
In our family, my husband is the avid coffee drinker. He is not coffee snob; he just really likes a good cup of coffee. His first trip to the Mean Mug was just for a cup of coffee. Not only did he like the coffee and the atmosphere, he was very impressed with the menu […]

The Pharmacy in Nashville
After reading so many reviews on Urbanspoon, I just had to try The Pharmacy Burger Parlor and Beer Garden in East Nashville. I am SO happy that I did. They offer TN beef (or you can opt for turkey) burgers, as well as vegetarian and fish burger selections. They also offer house-made wursts and fountain […]

Puckett’s Grocery of Lieper’s Fork, TN
The cooler weather has me thinking about going to Lieper’s Fork, Tennessee to listen to some great music as I eat my lunch at Puckett’s Grocery. Why? Maybe it is because I have not been there since the weather was cooler many months ago. Maybe it is because the food was warm and tasty. Maybe […]

1885 Grill
The 1885 Grill in the St. Elmo neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tennessee offers what they call “southern coastal cuisine.” I call it great, friendly service and really good food. Their location is in the heart of the St. Elmo business area. Despite its central location and close proximity to the Incline Railway, the 1885 Grill is […]

Ichiban Japanese Steak House in Hixson
Our family has a tradition of getting to pick where to go for dinner for your birthday. My daughter has picked the same place since her third birthday (she’s now eight), Ichiban Japanese Steak House on Highway 153 in Hixson, Tennessee. She really likes it. Why am I so specific with the address? Well, there […]

Izzy’s in Cincinnati
A Ruben sandwich piled high with quality meat, melted cheese, and cabbage on tender rye bread…not what I expected to find in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, I found that great sandwich and more at the local chain Izzy’s. Started by Jewish immigrants in 1901, Izzy’s was “the kosher style delicatessen West of the Alleghenies,” according to […]
