Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. Pink Pearls
How cool are these apples? No, there has not been any alterations to the picture. They really are pink inside.
I saw them at a local grocery store that emphasizes natural and organic products. I just had to buy some after getting to taste them in the store, and my family really liked them. However, they were not cheap, so we did not buy that many at $2.99/lb.
They have a light greenish skin with a firm, pink flesh. They are crisp and both sweet and tart.
After some Internet research, I found that the apples were developed by Albert Etter in California. They were introduced in 1944 and, according to some, are nearing extinction.
They have a short season. The ripen in late August and go just through mid-September.
They apparently make really good applesauce and I read that some people made pies from them. I did not buy enough to do either. We have enjoyed just eating them in their natural state.
The bottom line: These short seasoned, crisp, unique apples may not be easy to find, but are delicious and worth trying to find. You’d better hurry though, it is already September.
