Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl
Just off of I-70 in Zanesville, Ohio there is a place where you can be transported back to another time, perhaps your childhood. Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl is not a “retro” shop, it is the real thing. Its decor from the tables to the soda fountain bar to the floor are the same as they […]

Salmon Cakes
Although my mother did not fix a variety of fish or seafood, salmon cakes were a common dish at our house. In fact, they were a common, everyday dish in my extended family as well. I once witnessed my great-aunt feed five adults salmon cakes using a small can of salmon…and lots of crackers. It […]

New Orleans To Go: To Cincinnati?
How does someone who does not live in Cincinnati end up recommending the Po’ Boys from a food truck in the Ohio city’s downtown? The simple answer is because of my brother-in-law. He has raved about the terrific food served by the New Orleans To Go since he first ate it. He has even managed […]

Yummy Po’-Boy in Huntsville, AL
If you like Po’-Boys and are near Huntsville, Alabama, then I suggest you try the Po-Boy Factory. They had a good variety of choices of Po-boys including shrimp, craw fish, oysters, and catfish. In fact, you can even get a combination of any of the two I just mentioned on one sandwich. I had the […]

Woody’s Crab House: Home of the Best Crab Cakes
I wish I was enjoying the end of the summer visiting my in-laws. No, I am not being sarcastic. Yes, I have very nice in-laws. No, seriously, they are nice. I must admit though that one of the reasons I would like to be visiting them and not vise-versa (other than my house currently looks […]

Chocolate Cherry Bars
My mom started making these chocolate cherry bars in 1970’s. I recently discovered that was probably because it seems to be a version of a 1974 Pillsbury Bake-off recipe. (Side Note: My cake did not turn out this time as pretty as I would have liked, but it tasted great.) This was a cake that […]

Romaine and Cauliflower Salad
This salad can be made well in advance of serving and tastes great! The combination of Parmesan cheese and romaine lettuce make it reminiscent of a Caesar salad. It is wonderful for when you have guests, cook a meal for a crowd, pot luck, or just a nightly dinner. If your concerned that some of […]

The Pizza Place
When you think of great pizza, West Virginia may not be the first (or second, or tenth) place that comes to your mind. However, perhaps it should. Although I have had some very good pizza across America, my favorite is still pizza from The Pizza Place in my hometown, Parkersburg. You would think that after […]

Peanut Butter Sheet Cake
If you like peanut butter fudge, I think you will like this cake. The icing reminds me of peanut butter fudge. However, the peanut butter flavor is more subtle than in the peanut butter fudge I make. Although there is some stove top cooking involved, this is a very quick baking cake that can be […]

Eating at Arthur Bryant’s
When I hear Kansas City, I think barbecue. So while traveling across the country and passing through Kansas City, Missouri around lunch time, I decided we should eat at a barbecue joint. When we looked to the gps for close restaurants, it showed that Arthur Bryant’s was not far from where we were on the […]
