Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Skeenies Hot Dogs Are Still A Yummy Treat
On Route 21, just outside of Charleston, West Virginia is a small hot dog stand called Skeenies. They have been a favorite of mine since I was six years old. My parents started taking me to an allergy specialist in Charleston when I was six after I had some major allergy issues. It was before […]

Foodworks Does Work for a Nice Brunch
Foodworks is a unique, modern southern cuisine restaurant located in the North Shore area of Chattanooga, Tennessee in an old knitting mill. I had previously been to the antiques mall side of the old mill. It was neat, but the ambiance in the restaurant was even better. It was very clean and the decor showed […]

Skillet Stuffed Peppers
I must confess. . .I have changed the name of this recipe. It is from my Aunt Nina and it was titled “Stuffed Mangoes in a Skillet.” No, I have not changed one of the main ingredients. Green peppers were/are called mangoes in Eastern Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana. They may have been/be called […]

Maple Baked Salmon
My daughter loves fish. Salmon is her favorite non-crustacean. Salmon is one of the few fish I actually like. So, I have learned to cook salmon beyond making salmon cakes. I tried several salmon recipes that did not quite fit my family’s tastes before taking flavors that we liked in some of the recipes and […]

Bow Bread Knife: How Did I Ever Live Without You?
I am still working on my bread baking skills. In the meantime, whenever I can swing it, I buy bread from a local bakery. We have several local places that sell the really good Artisan breads. I love fresh bread. It stays fresher if I slice it as we use it than when the bakery […]

Easy Pepperoni and Pasta Casserole
Whether it is a quickly prepared meal for a busy weeknight or a dish needed to take to a friend who is ill or had a death in the family, casseroles are my “go-to” dishes. Besides being comfort food, they usually reheat well and can often be frozen…a great benefit when things are hectic. The […]

Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives: The Book
I love the Food Network program Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I love the concept, the host, and the execution. Most of all though, I love the places they feature. However, I was not sure I would even like a book about the television show. For me, much of the appeal of the show is the […]

Delicious Chinese Cuisine at The Formosa
I am not a fan of the typical Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant. Some of them are good enough and some of them are really bad. In fact, between them and the carry-out Chinese restaurants I used to frequent in years past, I thought I would never have really superior Chinese cuisine. I was wrong. I […]

Butterscotch Pudding Cake: Super Easy
This week is our first week of formal homeschooling at my house. Therefore, in honor of this week, I will be featuring some very easy, quick mix recipes. Life is short. Let’s start with dessert.

Simplify by Cooking Ahead: Chicken
I love chicken, but I also love quick meal preparation as well. I do not love precooked, frozen chicken’s taste or price. I used to love buying rotisserie chickens for the same price as raw. I also loved that they tasted better than what I made at home for cold chicken recipes. I used them for […]
