Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

Chicken, Bean, and Poblano Skillet
Some of the best dishes I developed seem to have started off as a mistake. This recipe came about because I intended to make bean and cheese stuffed poblano peppers, but the peppers did not hold their shape because I lost my mind and blistered the skins off of them. No, you are not suppose […]

Ban Thai in Cincinnati, Ohio
Ban Thai may have been my first Thai restaurant dining experience. Frankly, it has been so many years ago that I am just not sure. This local family business opened in 1990, but I did not eat there until probably ten years later. My last trip reminded me why I really like it. First, it […]

Johnny Marzetti Casserole
Nearly every Ohio recipe collection cookbook I own has a recipe or two for Johnny Marzetti. Each recipe is a little different. The original recipe is said to have been created by Teresa Marzetti (of T.Marzetti Co. dressings fame) in her Columbus, Ohio restaurant. It became very popular. Despite living on the border of Ohio for […]

Cafe on the Corner in Lookout Mountain, TN
Without any conscience intent, I seem to have started searching for good burgers at restaurants, especially restaurants located in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. So far, the cheeseburger that I had for my last birthday is the winner. I ate this wonderful burger at a small, local cafe atop Lookout Mountain in the very small city […]

Chicken Salad with Carrots
On a whim I decided to try and recreate a chicken salad that I have not tasted in over a decade. They used to make it at a natural foods store and restaurant in Marietta, Ohio. Although they have been out of business for years, I used to love their food. Their chicken salad was […]

Meat Sauce (for Lasagna, Etc.)
It would be nice to tell you that this meat sauce was one handed down in my family, but it would be a lie. My dad was, um, limited as to what food he enjoyed eating. He was not picky per se; he just did not like to try new things. Italian food was probably […]

Muller’s Famous Fried Cheese Cafe
Despite being located in the Appalachian Mountains instead of the Alps, Muller’s Famous Fried Cheese Cafe offers authentic Czech and German dishes in Helen, Georgia. Helen itself is a small city that saved itself from extinction by remaking itself resemble an alpine village. The transformation successfully made Helen tourist attraction. The city has been able […]

Sweet Potato Casserole with Pecan Topping
I buy sweet potatoes by the bushel. Seriously, I have recently purchased my second nearly bushel box of sweet potatoes. I think apples and oatmeal are the only other foods that we purchase in as large or larger quantities on a regular basis. I will tell you about the oatmeal sometime…it requires a separate post. 🙂 Most […]

Grandma’s Mincemeat
My paternal grandma’s mincemeat pie was a much sought after item by relatives close and far on my dad’s side of the family. It was not turned down on my mom’s side of the family either 🙂 It was a staple at the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner table. She and my parents tweaked her original […]

Pumpkin Muffins
Muffins are my “go to” when it comes to travelling breakfast foods. I like to make them when we are leaving early to go to an event or on a trip. Yes, some muffins have been called out for excessive calories and sodium. However, muffins can be relatively healthy and tasty when you make your […]
