Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert is an easy dessert that you can make from a few items in the pantry and freezer at any time of the year. It works well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, bridal or baby showers, etc. It is sweet and rich, yet somehow also seems light and refreshing. It is a rather nostalgic dessert as it reminds me a little of an orange push-up ice cream treat from my childhood. Plus, it is a molded gelatin dessert, which always reminds me of the past. As with other gelatin and fruit dishes, someone might call this a "Jello salad" in the United States. However, this recipe uses an entire quart of orange sherbert in addition to gelatin, so I can not bring myself … Continue Reading about Orange Cream Gelatin Dessert

The Feed Co. Table and Tavern
There is something about a re-purposed space for a restaurant that I love. It is even better when that restaurant offers really good food and friendly service. This is just what The Feed Company Table and Tavern offers. While The Feed Co. Table and Tavern on Main Street in Chattanooga has remodeled the space, the […]

Roasted Tomato Soup
There is something wonderfully comforting about a bowl of soup on a rainy day, particularly tomato soup. Tomato soup is heart-warming on a few levels. First, the rich red color with its acidic kick can brighten the dreariest of days. Second, tomatoes are a heart-healthy food full of lycopene, vitamins E and C, potassium, and […]

Cuban Sandwich
The Cuban sandwich (Cubano) at the Back to Cuba Cafe in Nashville, TN opened my eyes to how really delicious a Cuban sandwich could taste. It still is probably the best one I have ever eaten. However, I must admit that close second is one I made. In fact, it is so close that it […]

Easy Crock Pot Pulled Pork
I am always amazed by the magic that happens when you slowly cook a cheaper cut of meat in a crock pot for several hours. I think my favorite of these crock pot friendly meats has to be a pork shoulder (Boston butt) roast. A pork shoulder roast makes great pulled pork for a variety […]

Maple Street Biscuit Company in Chattanooga
An enthusiastic greeting by the staff upon entering the clean, nicely designed restaurant was a good start to having a great early lunch at the Maple Street Biscuit Company in Chattanooga. While the staff and the environment were notable, the food is what really made the experience. I had the bacon, lettuce and tomato biscuit sandwich. […]

Barbecue Smoked Sausages
A favorite at parties and potlucks, the barbecue smoked sausages are easy, quick, and crockpot friendly. While opening up a package of cocktail-size little sauasages is the quickest method, you can also just slice any smoked sausage (preferrably good quality sausage) to use for this tasty dish.

Pear Jello Salad
Gelatin salads remind me of my grandmother. I think she made a different one for every holiday. I loved ones with fruit and without cottage cheese. Cottage cheese in any gelatin salad was always a dissappointment to me and was not something I would usually eat…despite liking both Jello and cottage cheese seperately. I was […]

Pumpkin Ice Cream
Inspired by the delicious small-batch pumpkin ice cream at Clumpies in Chattanooga, I decided to make my own pumpkin ice cream for Thanksgiving. Despite my winging the recipe, it turned out great! Dare I say it…I think it may have even been better than Clumpies. Frankly, I think I like it better than pumpkin pie […]

Cranberry Tea : A Mulled Cranberry Drink
Although it is called cranberry tea, this beverage does not really contain any actual tea. I am not sure who came up with the name, but it really is a wonderful drink…hot or cold. This easy drink is made from scratch using fresh fruits that are full of vitamin C…a great thing in the winter […]

Sweet Potato and Lentil Hash
Leftover sweet potatoes are great to turn into a delicious hash the next day. This sweet potato and lentil version is a very filling dish for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner. Hash is just not the prettiest dish; it does not make for great photography. Thus, I find the optional egg mandatory…if you are going to […]
